Hair Braiding
SCOPE OF PRACTICE​
​
Hair braiding means a natural form of hair manipulation by braiding, cornrowing, extending, lacing, locking, sewing, twisting, weaving or wrapping human hair, natural fibers, synthetic fibers and hair extensions. The practice may be performed by hand or by using simple braiding devices, including, without limitation, clips, combs, hairpins, scissors, needles and thread. To provide these services in Nevada, you must obtain a hair braiding license.

HOW TO APPLY
​
To obtain a hair braiding license, you will need to submit an Individual Application for hair braiding. You can submit the Individual Application on our website or in our office. The application requires:

A non-refundable $125 fee

A passport-quality photo
-
A government-issued photo ID in your current name (driver's license, passport)

SSN Card or ITIN Documents
-
High School Diploma, GED, or Transcripts (10th Grade Completion Required)

Hair Braider Affidavit - THIS DOCUMENT MUST BE NOTARIZED BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

Completion Certificate from Barbicide Certification Course

* All documents must be translated to English prior to submitting an application.
Translations must be completed by an American Translators Association certified translator.

You must complete the Barbicide course and have the certificate ready to upload prior to applying with the Board. The course can be found here:

TESTING

Nevada State Law (Written)

After the application is processed, you will be contacted regarding testing. You will need to complete the hands-on practical exam, the theory exam, and the Nevada State Law exam. You can find study information for all of these exams here. If you need to retake any portion of the exam, there will be a $95 retake fee.

LICENSING
​
After all exams are passed, you receive an email to pay a licensing fee.
You have the option of a 2-year license for $70 or a 4 year license for $140.
The license will be issued to you after the licensing fee has been paid.
